Events in Sighișoara: the year's calendar, from the Medieval Festival to the Christmas Market

Sighișoara has a few big events that draw visitors from all over Romania and abroad, plus a rich local cultural calendar. Below are the ones that return every year, with the dates confirmed for 2026.
Sighișoara Medieval Festival (July)
The oldest medieval festival in Romania. In 2026 the 31st edition took place from 24 to 26 July, with the opening parade on Friday evening, concerts in Citadel Square, medieval combat demonstrations, theatre and medieval dance. Entry is free. Book your accommodation months in advance: it is the busiest weekend of the year.
ProEtnica, the intercultural festival (August)
A festival dedicated to Romania's ethnic minorities, held in the medieval Citadel. In 2026 the jubilee edition (25 years) took place from 26 to 30 August, opening in Citadel Square.
Summer academy and classical music concerts (August)
Every August the Sighișoara Academy organises classical music courses and concerts, usually in the first ten days of the month.
Summer concerts in the churches (May – September)
According to the town's cultural calendar, concerts are held on Friday evenings from 18:00 in the Monastery Church and the Church on the Hill.
Autumn: Heritage Days and the autumn fair (September)
The European Heritage Days and an autumn fair in Unirii Park and in the Citadel take place in the second half of September.
Winter: the Christmas Market (December – January)
In recent years the Christmas Market in the medieval Citadel has run from 1 December until early January. The dates for 2026 will be announced by the Town Hall.
Spring: the Easter Market
In the weeks before Easter an Easter market is held in the Citadel.
